Count me among those who'd previously spoke well of Matrix. I'm not going to recommend it again. Thank you for the responsible disclosure.

I really wish there was a secure messaging service that didn't also require a phone number.

@soatok @KinkyKobolds There is Session but I don't know much about it.

@odoben @soatok I only know two things about Session, both of which push me away from the service.

1. It's based on a blockchain for some reason, even though there's no reason for a messaging service to use a blockchain.
2. It's apparently so notorious for child pornography that even sites specifically intended for the sharing of loli/shota/cub art treat the sharing of one's Signal identifier as deserving of an instant-ban.
